Saving Time With Menu Calendars
Posted on November 25 2018
As a mom of three, I would spend a tremendous amount of time writing out grocery list. Trying to figure out what I was going to cook became a headache. Remembering what we had last, what everyone had a taste for, as well as considering what meals would be too time consuming for our busy schedule, was a waste of energy.
When you have multiple kids to take care of, time is of the essence. I pondered on ways to maximize my time better by being more organized. Since then, I’ve been planning my son’s lunch menu and the family’s dinner menu, two months in advance. Now, before you guys roll your eyes, call me crazy or just plain exit on out, it has literally saved me so much time! As I sit down to get the menu done for December and January, I thought I’d share the benefits of doing so with you.
By planning the menus two months in advance, I don’t have to sit and figure out what to cook right before running out to the store. I’m not spending time wandering down the aisles, thinking as I shop. I devote an hour to an hour and a half, every other month, preferably on a Sunday, to writing out what I plan to cook.
I start by writing out the various lunch and dinner ideas I have. I cook every other day in my home, so I simply begin to place the menu items into the calendar spots every other day. If I plan to have a weekend from cooking, I make those days “Restaurant” days or “Order Out” days.
This method has been a life saver! Not only has it saved me time to do other things with my family, its also saved me money! I know exactly what I’m buying in advance. You tend to stick to your grocery list if its executed correctly. If you are unsure of what you plan to buy, you pick up unnecessary things, adding to your grocery cost.
Making menu calendars helps you to put energy into other things that truly matter more, like reading a book to the kids, adding in a movie with them before bed or simply enjoying some YOU time! Try it out and let me know what you think. I’m pretty sure you won’t be disappointed!
Until next time Kuties!
